Boulder Opal & Boulder Opal Carvings

AUSTRALIAN BOULDER OPAL. Mineshaft has a large range of Boulder Opal and Boulder Opal carvings. Boulder opal is the term used for opal that occurs in ironstone boulders. The opal infills cracks within the boulder creating a unique type of opal. Peter had two boulder opal mines in Queensland. His Rainbow opal mine provides a lot of the boulder opal in Mineshaft. This has been cut into stones and also used for unique carvings and polished collectables. Click on the images to see a full size picture.

Boulder Gem Opal with crocodile. Peter could have cut this piece into a few gem opals. The pattern is fabulous and the crocodile is wrapped around the gem opal. The piece measures 55 mm by 28 mm by 11 mm and weighs 168 carats. It could be set in a large magnificent pendant or just kept for the magnificent collectable carving it is. The price is A$1500.
