Doublet Opal and Triplet Opal set in 9, 14 or 18 carat gold rings. Not everyone can afford a solid opal. Some want the beauty of a black opal and have a limited budget. Others just like the ring they are seeing. Most of the cost is the setting. Opal Doublets and triplets use a slice of light based opal cemented to a blackened base. Triplets have an added clear top. (normally synthetic Quartz) The dark base  makes the opal appear darker. (Like a black opal) They can’t be called Black Opal as it is the dark base making the opal appear dark and not the opal. Because they are laminated with glue they need to be kept out of water as prolonged water contact can react with the glue and the pieces can separate making the opal look like it has lost some of its colour. The opals we use are all standard sizes so the opal can be replaced at a fraction of the cost of the ring should separation occur over time.  So you can enjoy a quality gold set opal ring without the cost of an expensive stone.
