One of the best opals Peter has ever cut. He mined this opal around 1980 at Mintabie Opal Field. He kept it in the rough just to look at all these years. Recently he had the pleasure of cutting and discovery of the exquisite gem inside. 6.9 carats of beautiful dark crystal opal (best of the best). If rarity and the best quality is what you are looking for you can make an offer as it is time for someone to appreciate and take this unique gem to the next level by creating a special piece of jewellery.
This piece is now on display in the Black Opal jewellery page. Along with it is a ring set with an opal cut from the same piece of opal. It makes an exquisite set and is the best of the opal in all our years mining.
Mary & Jesus Opal carving. An exquisite opal carving. Crystal opal on top of Black Opal. This magnificent gem weighs 49 carats. The opal was mined at Mintabie Opal fields in the early 1990’s. The carving was done by our master carver in Bali. It is by far the best opal carving we have ever carved. Everything about it is perfection. And the rarity of this type of opal (particularly in such a large piece) makes it even more special. Will we ever have anything to compare with it…….probably not! If you want more information on this special piece please email us. THIS PIECE HAS BEEN SOLD.
ROLLING RIBBON (Rare BLACK OPAL). This is an extremely rare and rarely offered for sale gemstone. The colours roll in a repeating ribbon pattern from red to Turquoise. It weighs 3.1 carats and was found at Mintabie in South Australia at the Old Field in the early 1970’s. Peter has only recently had the joy of cutting this exquisite gem and is only one of three he has ever cut. It is even more special because it is from Mintabie and the chances of more being found is extremely unlikely as there is very little mining there today. The price is A$9000.
This gem has been set in a pendant and can be found on our Black Opal jewellery page.

BLACK OPAL $100 BOXES. While these last these boxes are incredible value. Each box contains between 8 to 12 carats of beautifully cut solid black and semi black opals. These would have to be the best value black opals available anywhere. The opal is very consistent from box to box and each and every box has equal value of opal. We will often sell several of these to the same customer in our shop. They are great as give-aways. We have many local silversmiths buy these for their jewellery.
It is most likely these have all sold as they are a popular line and it is impossible to keep our site up to date in a small family business.
Send us an E mail and we will send you pictures of current boxes.
GEM BLACK OPAL. This 2.78 gem is one of the best black opals of this size Peter has cut from Mintabie. It was found on the Old Field in the early 1970’s and Peter has only just cut it. The gem is multi-coloured with a lovely mix of vibrant red/orange/yellow/blue/green. It is highly unlikely more Black Opal of this quality will be found at Mintabie again. Very little mining is done there any more and the area where this stone was found was worked out many years ago. The price is A$6000. (This piece is currently being set as a pendant and we will put it on our Black Opal jewellery page when completed)
RARE UNUSUAL COLLECTORS BLACK OPAL. This piece will appeal to collectors of unusual opals. Mined at Mintabie in the 1970’s. It is a solid opal looking like nature has re-joined the opal fluid in stages. This is the last piece of brecciated opal I have. Unexpectedly cut recently and would make a wonderful rare addition to any collection. the chances of more being discovered at Mintabie is extremely unlikely as the area they were found was totally worked out many years ago. The stone measures 30 x 19 mm and weighs 14.1 carats. The price for this wonderful gem is A$3000.
This is a large multicoloured semi black opal from our Water Tank claim at Mintabie opal fields. It weighs 18.4 carats and measures 33mm x 11mm x 4.5mm. The price is A$5500 Click on the image for a larger picture.
